Toward Eternity
Toward Eternity
In the not-so-distant future, a new therapy
promises to eradicate cancer by replacing the cells with nanites. Nanites are
android cells that not only cure those suffering with cancer, but also make
patients virtually immortal. The question is, are they really themselves
anymore?
Story, Writing & Characters
While the story is science fiction, it is
scarily realistic as AI is becoming a major part of the present. Like anything
there are ways both good and bad to use AI. In this story it’s being used to
get rid of cancer & make someone immortal basically. The writing is
beautifully descriptive, Anton Hur has a gift with words. I didn’t dislike a
character and in most books there’s always a character or two that I dislike as
well as characters I do like. My favorite parts to read were Yonghun’s story, the
tragic love story AI Yonghun/Panit? Had inhabiting Yonghun’s body. Another
favorite part was Delta’s aka Eve D’s story about wanting to be human and not
wanting to be a killing machine anymore. The book poses questions to ponder. What
does it mean to be human? What ways we can be immortal without literally living
forever on this earth? What we do and how we love makes our legacy live on even
if we aren’t physically immortal. We also have our various religious opinions
on immortality when it comes to the soul. My belief is the Catholic belief. We
won’t be immortal on earth, but we do live on in eternity whether it’s in
Heaven or Hell.
Overall
Although I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, I am glad
I read this one & I enjoyed it a lot. If you’re into sci-fi about AI or are
looking for something different to read, I would check this one out! Thank you
for writing an interesting novel, Anton Hur. I would love to do a Q&A with
you in the future.
