The Stolen Queen

The Stolen Queen

The Stolen Queen is a historical fiction novel with dual timelines, history, & a bit of a mystery to solve. Our story begins in Egypt in 1936 when anthropology student Charlotte Cross is offered a spot on an archeological dig in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. Charlotte leaps at the opportunity. Unexpectedly tragedy comes along altering Charlotte’s future. In 1978 18-year-old Annie Jenkins is thrilled when she lands an opportunity to work with real life iconic former Vogue fashion editor Diana Vreeland who’s organizing the famous Met Gala. Charlotte wants nothing to do with the Met as she’s doing research on Hathorkare which many Egyptologists considers not as important and little is known about the ancient queen. Annie & Charlotte are about to be thrust into an adventure after an artifact is stolen and Hathorkare’s curse might have something to do with it. For the two to find answers, Annie & Charlotte must go to Egypt. The two will find out who stole the artifact & why as well as Charlotte’s own personal quests that connect to the present.

Research, Writing & Characters

The Stolen Queen is the first time I read anything by Fiona Davis, and I fell in love with it. Fiona has done a great job with the research & writing. The writing is descriptive and plays across my mind as though I were in the story myself, which is how immersive it is. My favorite scenes were the parts where Charlotte & Annie were in Egypt. I love how both characters bonded almost as though they were mother and daughter. Both female characters grew. Annie realized she needed to live her own life and stop trying to fix her mother’s terrible choices & the trip to Egypt took her out of her bubble. Charlotte’s trip to Egypt helped her stop running from the past. I enjoy how the story went from the 1930s to the 1970s. Normally for a historical fiction novel with two different timelines you prefer one timeline over the other one, but this one I enjoyed both timelines. I also liked how a mystery was blended into the book. If you enjoy historical fiction novels especially ones that take you to Egypt, pre-order a copy of The Stolen Queen by Fiona Davis coming out on January 7th! I promise you, you are in for a treat! I’m so excited about the Behind The Book Q&A discussion we will do!
