The Plot mini-series
Hello everyone this is Bianca coming to you to give
you a newsletter about a book related project. This past fall I read the book “The
Plot,” by Jean Hanff Korelitz who also wrote the other popular novel “You
Should Have Known,” which was turned into the series The Undoing starring
Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. Well now the novel “The Plot,” is being made into
a mini-series and Masharala Ali starring as Jacob Finch Bonner.
“The Plot,” is about struggling writer Jacob, who is
down on his luck teaching an MFA program at a college. This college student
Evan Parker who’s as cocky and arrogant as one could get is sure that his novel
will be a bestseller and that he doesn’t really need this college course. That
day of Evan’s novel being published never comes true and Jacob finds out that
Evan died before finishing the novel. What does Jacob do? He finishes it and
passes it off as his own. Jacob is now a bestselling author and the book is
being read by Oprah and Steven Spielberg has the film rights. One day though,
Jacob starts getting tormented by someone who knows he stole the idea.
According to my source, variety.com, Endeavor Content assembled the eight-episode
project and shopped it in recent days to at least a half-dozen outlets,
including Netflix, Hulu, HBO/HBO Max and Amazon. It’s known to have been
enthusiastically received and drawn multiple offers. Endeavor Content declined
to comment. Wow a half a dozen outlets? If a half a dozen outlets is
shopping for the rights to a book you know the book was excellent. Since I read
the book myself I would like to see Hulu or HBO/HBO Max get the rights to the
novel. Hulu did a great job with the show Only Murders in the Building and I
enjoyed HBO’s The Undoing and HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant based on another
book with the same name.
Abby Ajayi the writer behind ABC show called, “How
To Get Away With Murder,” is writing the eight episode mini-series. As soon as
I find out more information about the mini-series I will write an update. For
fans of, “The Plot,” I hope you are excited just like I am! I sped through “The
Plot,” in a week because I had to know what happened next.
