The Passionate Tudor A Novel Of Queen Mary I

The Passionate Tudor A Novel Of Queen Mary I

The Passionate Tudor A Novel Of Queen Mary I is the final book in the Tudor Rose trilogy. The first book was about Elizabeth Plantagenet, the second book about Henry VIII and the final book being about Mary I the granddaughter of Elizabeth and daughter of Henry VIII. Mary I is infamously known as Bloody Mary. I was so delighted to read an early copy of the book by Alison Weir which will be published on May 28th.

Writing, History & Portrayal

The last time I read a historical fiction book about Mary I from her point of view was by author Carolyn Meyer back in the 2000s. It was great reading another book about Mary I from her point of view covering her childhood to her eventual reign as Queen. I did feel sometimes that the parts about Mary & her stepmothers was a rehash of The Tudor Queen novels & The Lady Elizabeth novel. Regardless the writing & research was excellent! Books like these make me appreciate the fact that I was born in America, where I can be a Catholic and not have to worry about being imprisoned or executed for it.  With that being said, I like the fact that while Alison doesn’t make excuses for Mary, she doesn’t make her a total monster. Mary still did a lot of wrong that even Catholics didn’t agree with what she was doing to Protestants. I know new research is coming out about Mary about her not being as bad as portrayed, at the same time I don’t agree with what she did.

 Overall

Overall, if you are a fan of royal history, & both historical fiction & historical nonfiction books by Alison Weir, I recommend The Passionate Tudor by Alison Weir, coming out on May 28th
