The Note
The Note
Growing up May Hanover has always been a good girl. May has been at the top of her class, well behaved, a stickler for the rules raised by a first-generation Chinese single mother. For the way May is, her friends Kelsey & Lauren call her Little Sherrif. Sometimes though, good girls also have their secrets and regrets. May, Kelsey & Lauren have had a bond that has been through a tragic accident, individual scandals, heartbreak and loss and none of those things have broken them up yet. The three friends reunite after so many years apart for a fun in the sun vacation in the Hamptons. Unfortunately, a drunken prank goes wrong and then the next day someone goes missing & is eventually found dead and is somehow connected to them. But how? And more importantly, why?
Story, Writing, Characters & Twists
I love that the story has a mixture of friendship built in with a mystery. This is the first time I read anything by Alafair Burke and I’m happy that I was able to read an early copy from Netgalley. It might have started out slow at first but then as I kept reading it got more exciting, and the writing was easy to read. Out of all the characters I think my favorite character was May. Even with May’s mistakes, she means well. Every time I thought I knew who the killer was going to be, we’re thrown a curve ball which is what makes this a great mystery. When the true killer is reveit’sd, it does make a ton of sense even if its not who you suspect. I was very honored and lucky to read a netgalley copy of the book back in late October. If you’re a fan of Alafair Burke’s, a fan of mysteries and/or a first-time reader of Alafair Burke like I am, I recommend ordering a copy of The Note which is available today on January 7th!
