The Melancholy Of Untold History

The Melancholy Of Untold History

The Melancholy Of Untold History is a tale of a history professor mourning his wife, his young colleague’s search for a path forward, four witty mountain gods with so much to say and not enough time to listen and a gifted storyteller who faces execution. I was very happy to receive an early copy of the novel by Minsoo Kang and I’m very glad I spent Fourth Of July weekend reading it.

Writing, Characters & Stories Within Stories

Minsoo Kang’s descriptive writing takes you to worlds within worlds which I enjoy. The historian, the storyteller, the mountain gods and goddesses & sky baby I love them all! I also love the blend of magic, romance, grief and humor with all the stories. I found myself chuckling at parts. You would think the historian’s story in the modern day and the past and the myths wouldn’t connect but they do connect well. I like how the stories are taken from East Asian Mythology & how the point of the book is while it is fiction, even in fiction there is some type of truth being told.

Overall

If you’re a fan of stories inspired by myths from other cultures and the idea that fiction does tell the truth even if it’s made up, I recommend The Melancholy Of Untold History coming which is out today, July 16th! I am very grateful to you Minsoo Kang for sending me an early copy & doing the Q&A with me.
