The year is 1943 in the Pacific, nurse Kate Campbell is a nurse who bravely flies back and forth to rescue wounded soldiers on the front to safety. The days are long, there are harsh conditions and dangerous weather. Eventually an injury sends Kate back to New York with her Aunt Helene and Uncle Frank. When Kate eventually heals, she is reassigned to the English Countryside. The last thing Kate thinks about is falling in love, but when she meets William, an officer with three bullet wounds, startling blue eyes and a great sense of humor, Kate couldn’t help herself. Before Kate can pursue a future with William, Kate finds out something from her past and she will have to return to that part of her past to find out what happened and why….
History, Story, Twists & Characters
I love the fact that we find out a little bit of history that isn’t well known with the flight nurses rescuing soldiers from the front lines of war during World War II. The story is interesting. I love the characters of Kate & William. I enjoy the story going back and forth between the 1940s to the early 2000s. I enjoyed throughout the story we peel back the parts about Kate’s past because in the beginning of the story she was a bit of a mystery. Then there was William who recently lost his wife Olivia who was a famous author. Selene, who is a stranger to William, helps him piece together the past of what happened to Kate & William after they separated. I did shed tears at the end. I did enjoy the story a lot, even if the ending was more bitter than sweet. The Lies We Leave Behind by Noelle Salazar will be available tomorrow on November 5th, wherever books are sold.
