The Librarians Of Lisbon

The Librarians Of Lisbon

Best friends Selene & Bea are librarians recruited from Boston by the U.S. Intellegence Office to go to Portugals capital Lisbon a city that harbors exiled royalty, hunted refuges & spies. By day Selene & Bea save books banned by Nazis and by night they engage in more dangerous adventures. Selene works with disgraced baron Luca Caldeira as they both charm their way into ballrooms to find out secrets. Bea joins Gable’s shadowy world of informants. As their missions intertwine and an unexpected betrayal happens, can the two women’s friendships as well as their hearts survive the war?

History, Characters & Pacing

I love that there is another historical fiction novel about World War II Portugal. I know of only one other novel that takes place between Portugal and France and that was The Librarian Spy by Madeline Martin. While Portugal was neutral there were people who played both sides of the war for their own benefits. I love the fact that Selene, Bea, Luca & Gable are based off of actual people who existed & the author Suzanne Nelson did an excellent job of researching the novel very well! I especially love that the character of Luca was based off of Portugal’s version of Oskar Schindler, Aristides de Sousa Mendes. I also love the romances between each of the character then again I am a romantic at heart. I hope this novel encourages more authors to write about Portugal and other countries during their time of World War II that you don’t read about often. If you don’t have an early copy of The Librarians Of Lisbon, you should definitely preoder the novel now so you can get it on February 4th! Thank you Suzanne Nelson for writing an amazing story! I look forward to our Q&A!
