The Liberty Scarf
The Liberty Scarf
The Liberty Scarf written by Aimie K. Runyan, J’Nell Ciesielski & Rachel McMillan is a historical fiction novel taking place during World War I about three women, their love stories and the scarf that unites them all. Iris is a scarf maker in London and Liberty’s first female pattern designer. Genevive is a French-Canadian immigrant who becomes a bilingual operator in the US Army Signal Corps. Clara Janssens is a Flemish nurse leaving her provincial life in Belgium. Captain Conrad Jones is on temporary leave & makes a bet to dance with a girl or else he’d have to shine the rest of his mates’ shoes. This is where the love story slowly develops for him and Iris. When Conrad is wounded and in Strasbourg France, Iris rushes to be by his side and she encounters a woman wearing one of her scarves…. Maxime is a French soldier who makes Genevive realize that changing who she is to fit into a group of people who don’t except her is too high of a price to pay. Roman Allaire encourages Clara to be braver and he plays music for the soldiers at the front to boost morale.
Story, Writing, Characters & Timeless Lessons
I love the concept for the story with three love stories and a scarf that unites three women. Aimie, J’Nell & Rachel did an excellent job of writing 3 unique women & their stories that took place in the dark period of history that was World War I. Normally when there’s multiple stories in a book like this, I end up liking some more than others, but to be honest each story was so unique and interesting it was hard to pick a favorite. Each character grew & I think the character that did the most growth was Genevive. Genevive realized with Maxime’s help that giving up who she is to fit in isn’t worth it and that she is great the way she is. Theres a difference between growth and being someone you aren’t & we must not get the two confused. Another timeless lesson I was reminded of was, happy endings do happen. Sometimes things seem to never change or get worse, but when we’re tempted to give up, wonderful things around the corner surprise us. The Liberty Scarf is available on November 19th! If you or someone you know enjoys historical fiction & romance, it will be a great gift to get someone this holiday season! Thank you, Aimie, J’Nell & Rachel for crafting a beautiful work of art.
