The Happy Writer
The Happy Writer
The Happy Writer by Marissa Meyer is a guide that helps aspiring authors on obviously writing but also the importance of plotting, creativity first draft, publication and the most important thing, being happy! If you aren’t happy with what you do, what would be the point of doing it?
Writing, Information Both Old & New To Be Learned
I like that this book is part writing coach, guidebook & most importantly inspirational. The writing in The Happy Writer flows well and isn’t dry like a ton of nonfiction books can be. Marissa acknowledges that when it comes to writing and outlining and plotting and everything in between, that these are tips that have helped her but that you must do what works for you. I like how she tackled perfectionism. Many authors have told me throughout my Q&As with them that first what’s most important is getting the words written down and then go back and edit them later. I admit I have dabbled in writing stories down and then during the writing process I’m thinking, “Wait? This doesn’t make sense!” or “No this doesn’t sound good at all.” So I had to go back and correct it as I went along and it helps no one. Some new information I learned was authors not having much control over certain things like cover art and how long an agent, publicist, editor etc stays around. I like that Marissa discussed how not everyone will like your book and we briefly spoke about this in our Q&A 2 years ago which you can read here https://booknotions.com/qa-with-marissa-meyer/ ! Thank you, Marissa, for writing this guidebook! I will cherish this book forever & remember all the wisdom and lessons you’ve given us within
The Happy Writer!
