The Games Gods Play
The Games Gods Play
Every 100 hundred years there is a game called The Crucible. The Gods of Olympus hold a deadly contest called The Crucible which will determine who will sit on the thrown of Olympus. Of course the Gods who are immortal don’t fight their own battles, they get mortals to do it for them. What makes this year’s Crucible special? Hades who we all know as the God of Death & King of the Underworld, is participating in The Crucible for the first time and has chosen a woman cursed to be unlovable by Zeus, Lyra Keres to be his tribute. Should she be the victor, Hades will lift her curse. Hades might be the death of Lyra both literally and figuratively when it comes to matters of the heart…
Story, Writing, Action & Characters
The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owens is Greek Mythology meets The Hunger Games which I love! I read a similar book to this back in 2022 called Lore by Alexandra Bracken. I will say The Games Gods Play is a better version of Lore, as the action starts up right away and in The Games Gods Play there’s more romance as well as action this time around. The writing is easy to read and even though it’s a thick 509-page novel, you get through it very fast. The action starts up right away which I love, and I love the fact Lyra has such sass but not to where it’s annoying. Hades and Lyra have great chemistry. Hades I never thought I would love as a character; he’s trying to resist being in love with Lyra & his motivations for why he chose her and his motivations are revealed little by little. I also liked the other side characters and Gods. That epilogue has me excited for book 2! How will I survive waiting for it? If you enjoy mythology, action and romance, I recommend The Games Gods Play which is available to read now wherever books are sold!
