Book Notions Newsletter

Hi everyone this is your book blogger Bianca giving you new information about upcoming book related news whether they are writing new books and when they’ll be published to whether a movie or tv adaption of a book is coming out. I’m friends with a few authors on Facebook and follow some on instagram which makes it easier to get the scoop on everything books. Otherwise I just dig and investigate on my own if I can’t get the news from the author themselves. This particular book I didn’t have to do too much digging into anything. If you’ve read the Hunger Games like I am, there is a prequel book coming out in 2020. The books is called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

According to Book Riot which is stated below:

Fans received a few hints at the plot with the initial announcement in June. The prequel will take place on the morning of the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games, 64 years prior to the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy. In the press statement, Collins described her approach to the new book as exploring the state of nature and what is required for survival.

The reconstruction period ten years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days—as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet—provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity,” Collins shared.

With this timeline, stars of the Hunger Games trilogy like Katniss, Peeta, and Gale are unlikely to appear in the new book. However, at least two major characters, Mags and President Snow, could play a role in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

David Levithan, VP, Publisher, and Editorial Director for Scholastic, shared more hints of what the cover might mean. “This cover does an extraordinary job of capturing the conflict—both inner and outer—that lies at the heart of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” Levithan said. “The mockingjay has returned, but at a new angle… which is very much in line with the story that Suzanne Collins is telling.”

There is of course movie rumors about the book as well. It doesn’t really surprise me since after all, Hollywood and Suzanne Collins have teased rumors about a prequel movie or series for quite sometime. Personally I feel like the author should move on from the Hunger Games universe because too much of a good thing is no good, but when the book comes out I will read it. Hopefully it will prove me wrong and I as well as others end up enjoying the book.
