Queen Anna

Princess Anna of Denmark is married to Scotland’s king, King James VI and Anna is thrust into a loveless marriage and chaotic court. The two monarchs eventually become King and Queen of England after the death of the last Tudor Queen Elizabeth I. Anna is surrounded by gossiping courtiers and everyone looking for power and influence in the Stuart court. With rumors swirling about, and Anna suffering so much loss from losing several of her children, Anna triumphs & keeps her head up and not consign herself to a passive victim.

Research, Writing, & Pacing

You can tell Tony Riches did a great job with the research and writing for the novel. The world of this Stuart Queen with the masques, the settings of first Denmark, then Scotland and England came to life. The pacing in parts might seem slow or a little off, but I still enjoyed it. I love the fact that this is the first book in his Stuart Queens trilogy and if you’re a history lover, you’ll know the next queen will be Henrietta Maria and then Catherine of Braganza. I also love the fact that this isn’t the umpteenth book of The Tudor Queens or Henry VIII and their children. Don’t get me wrong, everyone including myself enjoys reading the Tudor era, but there are other queens who deserve the spotlight & I’m happy Tony Riches gave Anna her turn in the spotlight. I look forward to interviewing him again!
