Q&A With Michelle Major

Michelle Major is the USA Today Bestselling Author of romance novels many of which are in a series. Michelle’s series are The Skylark Series, Colorado Heart Series, The Carolina Girls Series, The Magnolia Sisters Series, Welcome To Starlight Sisters, Secrets of Fortunes Gold Ranch, Crimson Colorado Series & Brevia North Carolina Series.

Q: Michelle, would you please give a brief description of each of your series? What drew you into writing romance?

A: I’m so excited to be with you. I’ve written a number of series over the years and 2025 marks the release of my 60th title, Someone To Love, which is the start of my new series, The Skylark Series. My series has a few things in common; they all include themes of redemption, transformation and found family. Of course, romance is central for each of the books. I love the journey of the hero and heroine overcoming their limiting beliefs to find love.

I came to read romance when I had a challenging job and needed to escape. At that point, I realized the stories I’ve always told myself in my head were romance plots and a new career was born.

Q: Is it fair to say that the worlds & characters within your books are taken from bits and pieces of real places and people?

A: Some of them, yes, and I always sprinkle a bit of real life in each of the books. Most of my stories are set in either Colorado or North Carolina, two settings that are personally special to me.

Q: What lessons & emotions do you hope readers feel after reading your books?

A: Mostly I hope they come away with a sense of hope and a smile on their face. I write books

Q: How long does it take you to write a book? For an aspiring author wanting to write a series, what advice do you have for them to keep each book in the series better than the previous one?

A: It takes me about two to three months to write a book. I would tell aspiring authors not to worry about “better” because that’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself. But if you’re interested in writing a series, one thing that has helped me is to have a plan for each of the books from the start. And an overarching series arc linking them together – even if each book can be read as a standalone. I think readers love being introduced to characters and getting to know them as the series progresses, and for an author it’s important to keep track of all that. And sometimes a bigger challenge than we realize at the outset.

Q: What’s it like knowing that your books are on the USA Today Bestsellers List? It must feel so exciting and surreal! Congratulations are in order!

A: Thank you so much. That is a huge honor and what it means is even more important to me—that my stories are resonating with readers.

Q: Can you reveal any projects you are currently working on right now?

A: I have books 1 – 3 (Someone To Love, Someone To Tempt, Someone To Have) of The Skylark Series ready to release and now I’m beginning book 4, Someone To Hold, which will come out in October. I love this part of a series, when I’ve really gotten to know the characters and I’m completely immersed in their world.

Q: Does Hollywood have the rights to your work? Whether they do or not, who would be your dream cast to play the characters you created? I hope they get the rights eventually because the entertainment industry has nothing original anymore.

A: No rights yet but I’m here for it! Lol. I think there are so many amazing actors out there – my priority would be the chemistry between the two main characters plus actors who can be funny because I always include heart and humor in my books.

Q: How do you deal with self-doubt, negative reviews, online trolls and unsupportive family and friends who don’t understand or support your writing goals? Whatever wisdom you have may help future writers out there.

A: Mindset is one of the things I work on the most. I tend to stay away from reviews—I respect any reader’s opinion but that’s for them, not so much for me. And as far as support, I do my best to surround myself with people who are supportive—the bookish community is fantastic. It’s also important to turn it off sometimes. My favorite activity is walking my dog, just being in nature is such a huge help.
