Q&A With Chris Bauer

Back in October in honor of Halloween I read Chris Bauer’s horror anthology Harrigans Prince & Other Stories. I am happy to be doing this Q&A with him today!

Q: Chris would you please give a brief description of Harrigans Prince & Other Stories?

A: The title story, Harrigan’s Price, is based on my father’s memory of an event in the Southwest Pacific during the dark, early days of World War Two. He served at a MASH unit in New Guinea, a jungle mile from an airfield. He witnessed some of the events, and heard the rest many days later.  He was only certain of what he had seen, and later heard.

The stories range from a woman harassed by ultimately friendly killer squirrels in Winter of Her Discontent, to changing reality in your sleep in World of Your Dreams, to a modern retelling of Aladin and the Magic Lamp for Lilly and the Key. Each has its own twist.

Q: Where do your ideas for your characters & places come from?

A: Where do the ideas come from? Life is filled with stories; one need only notice and give them a slight shove in a different direction.  Have you ever had issues with an AI Virtual Assistant? Or wondered if you were really on the correct flight? Just give those moments their momentum, and let them go.

These stories were written over a period of years, and were it not for Sandra Murphy Presents, an imprint of White City Press, they would still be scattered over a dozen websites.
