Once Upon A Poetry

Once Upon A Poetry

Poetry is an art form that tells a story, describes a feeling, a smell, a taste and everything in between in just a few short sentences. Its shorter than a short story and its itty bitty compared to a novel. In honor of April being National Poetry Month, I will discuss two poetry collections I read this year that is worth reading!

Loves Of Our Lives Poems For Hopeful Hearts by Josie Balka

While the cover is a beautiful watercolor mosaic heart, on the inside, there are poems with love in all its forms. There’s romantic love, familial love and friendship love. I like how one poem acknowledged friends growing apart but how love and memories are still there. The poems seem very personal as though you have a best friend speaking with you as you read along.

A Suit or a Suitcase by Maggie Smith

The art work for the cover is gorgeous. Maggie’s writing flows like a river and this is my first time reading anything from her and I can’t wait to read more of her work. One of my favorite poems is how even when we stubbornly try to stay in the past, we move forward anyway without any choice. It really makes you think and acknowledge the truth in it. The world around us changes whether we wanted it to or not.
