Marilyn and her Books: The Literary Life Of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn and Her Books: The Literary Life Of Marilyn Monroe

The world knows Marilyn Monroe as an actress and sex symbol and for having a tragic life. In this book, author, academic and researcher Gail Crowther does a deep dive on something not many people think of when they think about Marilyn Monroe, her love of reading. Marilyn was a voracious reader that read anything and everything that interested her & was very intelligent and much more than the “dumb blond” stereotype.

 Research & Writing

Gail Crowther did an excellent job of research and writing and the book grabbed me right away and it was hard to put it down. Gail made me feel as though I was with Marilyn as she browsed the bookstores she was at and picturing what Marilyn’s bookshelf looked like. Each section discussed how books had an influence on her acting career, how she could relate to the stories and even some of the famous writers she met. I can tell Gail was passionate proving that Marilyn was more than just a sex symbol Hollywood molded her into in the movies and then the public thought that’s how she was in real life. Marilyn And Her Books is one of the best books of 2026 and the year isn’t over yet. The book is available today on May 26th wherever you get your books!
