Live Fast

Live Fast

French author & writer, Brigitte Giraud writes her memoir about the chain of events that led up to her husband, Claude’s fatal & tragic motorcycle accident in Lyon France. We also get glimpses of her life before the accident. Each chapter states “If only” as she tries to peace together what could have stopped it.

Writing, Grief & Letting Go

I was very fortunate to get an early copy of Live Fast from Brigitte’s American publicist Sonya several months back and read it. I’m very grateful that I read it. Live Fast while not Brigitte’s first book, it is the first book of hers to be translated to English. Cory Stockwell did a great job of translating it. Brigitte’s writing flows beautifully. I like that each chapter is titled “If only” because she’s explaining to us how she dealt with her grief thinking “if only this happened” or “if only this didn’t happen” “if only I/he/she did/did not do this” trying to make sense of Claude’s death and everything leading up to it. The point of “if only” is, things do happen and there’s no real explanation and if things happened differently, we don’t know and never will know if it will happen the same way or not. Toward the end she realized she had to stop trying to make sense of everything because it will drive her mad. Live Fast came out on February 11th & is available to read wherever books are sold.
