Hold Strong

Hold Strong

Hold Strong is a historical fiction novel taking place during World War II. Sam Carlson is a projectionist in small town Minnesota & his sweetheart Sarah Haber is a math wiz bound for college wanting to teach. Both Sam & Sarah do their parts for the war effort. Sam enlists in the service & Sarah is a code breaker. When the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, Sam is taken as a POW by the Japanese and is brutalized but not beaten down by The Bataan Death March.  Sarah intercepts a message about a Japanese convoy the Arisan Maru. The mission? Sink the Arisan Maru clear to sink it to the dark depths of the South China Sea… Doing this though, could break Sarah’s heart…

Research, Writing, Characters & Everything In Between

Where do I begin? I know 2025 isn’t here yet, but after starting and finishing reading this novel, I could already tell it was going to be one of the best books of 2025. You can tell Robert Dugoni, Dr. Jeff Langholz & Chris Crabtree did an excellent job of blending research and storytelling without the research sounding like a textbook & without the storytelling seeming farfetched. The writing is descriptive & I could see everything happening in my head as if I were watching a movie! The characters are well written.  My favorite characters are, Sam, Sarah, Pete Chavez, Qui Jin & Father Thomas Scecina who was a real Catholic Priest aboard the Arisan Maru. I would have so many questions and confessions for Father Thomas. I appreciate that while this novel is a historical fiction novel, its one of those rare novels that tells the importance of courage, endurance and most of all faith even when life seems like a never-ending nightmare.  There are so many scenes I appreciate but I would end up spoiling it. If you enjoy historical fiction, history about World War II, pick up a copy of Hold Strong by Robert Dugoni, Dr. Jeff Langholz & Chris Crabtree which will be available on January 28th! I look forward to our Q&A gentlemen! Thank you Megan Beatie for sending me an early copy & the beautiful note! You were right I did enjoy it!
