Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart is heartwarming for mine

She didn’t want him protecting his heart, apparently. She wanted him throwing it wholeheartedly into the air and hoping she caught it and didn’t let it crash to the ground.

We all know it’s hard opening your heart up to someone. In this tale of Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart, we read about the journey of Lord Jonathan “Jon” Leighton at the end of the Napoleonic war. Jon and the other English captives are freed, unfortunately his mentor Morris had died in prison & as a promise to Morris on his death bed, Jon must help Victoria find a good husband. Jon’s plan is to create a fake dowery to help Victoria open her marriage prospects to men of high society.  Jon returns home a different man after his experiences in France and is now Duke. Victoria “Tori” Morris, however, has no interests in marriage. Rather, Victoria has a dream of opening a school for women artists. From the start sparks fly between Jon & Tori. Can Jon & Tori reveal their feelings for one another without holding on to secrets tearing them apart?

Story, Writing, Characters

Reading the synopsis online I could tell I was going to enjoy this historical romance. The story is almost a blend of My Fair Lady with something you would watch on PBS Masterpiece. I love all the characters, there weren’t any characters I disliked. Tori & Jon, while there was physical chemistry, they are a positive influence on each other, and they both become better people. You don’t change people, you can’t, but when you’re a positive influence on someone they change and grow on their own. I love the book, but some of my favorite scenes were Tori teaching art lessons to Jon, the next was going to the art museum. The twists toward the end were excellent & made sense and I enjoyed the epilogue. If you are a fan of author Sabrina Jeffries, & the historical romance genre in general, preorder a copy of Hazardous to a Duke’s Heart coming out on my birthday April 29th! I look forward to doing a Q&A with you Sabrina!
