Eragon announcement and future book news!

I know many of you are probably fans of the Eragon books and hate the movie that came out in 2006. I never even read the books and while I was watching the movie in theaters my mind went, “What even is this?” Two days ago news broke that Disney + was developing an Eragon t.v. series based off of the novels by Christopher Paolini. I can hear many groans now as I type this and I can sympathize. Seriously how many remakes and reboots can be done of multiple movies and shows? I am lenient when it comes to book adaptations being remade, because often times Hollywood *gives them a glare* doesn’t always do the story justice or follow it correctly. The second or third time around they almost always manage to get it right.

Not too long ago Christopher  Paolini posted to his Instagram account. Below is what he said.

Kvetha Fricaya! Greetings Friends.

As you may have seen, there was an unplanned announcement earlier this week, but yes, its true—an Eragon television series is in development at Disney +, and I’m attached to both co—write and produce! And yes, I’m extremely excited for what the future holds. At the moment, I can’t go into details—it’s still early days with regards to this project—but I can say that I’m very pleased with the team I’m working with at 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, and Disney +. These are smart passionate people, and I’m looking forward to making the best possible Eragon/Inheritance Cycle adaptation with them.

This has been a long time coming. I can’t tell you how many conversations, meetings and messages were needed in order to reach this point. And we’re still just at the beginning! However, none of this would have been possible without everyone who has read the books, supported the tweetstorms and participated in this fandom over the years. So a huge thank you from me to every Alagaesian out there. You brought the thunder.

Disney will have more to say on this adaptation in the near future, but in the meantime, I wanted to confirm the news and to reassure you that I’m committed to making sure that this version of Eragon’s story lives up to your highest expectations.

And of course, as the elves would say, “Atra esterni ono thelduin.”

Christopher Paolini

p.s. Oh and did I mention that I have two new books coming out next year?

So there you have it folks! You heard it from Paolini himself. Not only is an Eragon t.v. series happening Paolini is a co-writer and producer of the show. Normally when that happens, you know you’re going to get a faithful adaptation. I’m slightly weary about Disney doing it because they’ve messed up some books that fans and people who haven’t read the books hated. Luckily with Paolini having some control it shouldn’t be a problem.

Paolini has two books coming out next year. Which begs the question? Are these two books a continuation of the Eragon series? Or are these two new books part of a new series? Time will tell. I did message him when news broke out, asking if he’d be interested in a Q&A. I will update you all when I know more.
