Eleanor of Aquitaine Series based on Alison Weir’s books!
This past summer, Alison Weir became another favorite author of mine. I was hoping someone would make some of Alison’s books into a series since they’ve made many of Philipa Gregory’s books into shows and films. It seems as though my prayers have been answered and I was late to the party finding this out. Starz who is partnering up with Lionsgate TV is creating a Eleanor of Aquitaine series. The series will be based off of Alison Weir’s biography, “Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life,” and the historical fiction novel about Eleanor that I read this past summer called, “Captive Queen,” according to Variety.com.
It makes me happy knowing that Starz is doing more shows about royal women of the past. Some of them are well known and others not as well known. Also like I’ve said many times before, what Alison does better than Phillipa Gregory is even her historical fiction books remain accurate and the only time Alison puts creative license in her books is when there’s not enough research to prove what could or could not have happened. Eleanor was an interesting queen from the eleven hundreds and what makes Eleanor interesting was she proved to be a good ruler in her own right and she fought to control her own life in a time where women didn’t have much control at all.
Eleanor was mother to many famous monarchs two of them were famous Kings, King Richard the Lionheart and King John who was forced to sign the Magna Carta. Eleanor was also Duchess of Aquitaine her own independent duchy, Queen of France till she had gotten an annulment from Louis and then Queen of England when she married Henry II. It’ll be interesting to see Eleanor’s life unfold in the series. When there is casting and an airdate and a trailer I will give everyone an update. Until then happy reading!
