Death At Morning House

Death at Morning House

Marlowe Wexler is a typical teenage girl dealing with highschool & crushes. One night while house sitting with her crush Akilah, the date became hotter than Marlowe can handle when a candle she gave Akilah exploded and burned the house down. With her housesitting career being short lived, Marlowe gets a new summer job at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s. But Morning House has a dark history and the person who brought Marlowe to Morning House vanished. Could the mysteries of the past and the present be somehow connected?

Concept, Writing, & Characters

I like the concept of the story and the writing is easy to understand. I normally can enjoy mystery novels that jump in between the past and present though there are times where one period is more interesting than the other. This was one of those times. I was more interested in the past timeline than I am in the present & I think if the storyline was just taking place in the past I would have liked it more. I also didn’t connect with any of the characters in either timeline.

Overall

If you’ve read Maureen Johnson’s previous books, you might be a fan of Death At Morning House or you might not. This book is also geared towards young adults which might factor if you enjoy the book or not.
