Controversial Sequel to “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”

Hello everyone! I have some exciting news. John Boyne author of “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” as well as many other novels is writing a sequel to “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” called “All The Broken Places.” “All The Broken Places,” will be released on September 15th 2022. “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” tells the story of Bruno the son of an SS officer at Auschwitz who develops an unlikely friendship with Shmuel a Jewish boy imprisoned in the camp. “All The Broken Places,” is a sequel about Bruno’s sister Greta. According to my source lithub.com Bruno’s sister Greta is now ninety one years old looks back on a life scarred by guilt and grief. According to my other source jta.org The follow up will be set in Paris, Sydney and London, and will initially follow Greta and her mother’s escape from Poland at the end of the war after a cataclysmic event which tore their lives apart according to the book description.

I only found out recently that “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” sparked controversy when it was released because of historical inaccuracies. Many felt anger that it depicted Burno’s parents grief at Bruno’s death as the main tragedy when many Jewish people were being murdered.  So for those who knew about the controversy I guess it isn’t a shock that there are some people unhappy about the sequel. I am definitely excited about the sequel. It will be interesting to read the book from Greta’s point of view and seeing how she grew up and how she comes to terms that what her father was doing during the war was evil and how she was gas lighted to think he was good when he wasn’t.
