Close Knit
Close Knit
In the Northern Islands of Scotland, Gertie McIntyre goes from her knitting circle to stewardess in this book filled with knitting, beautiful scenery & of course romance. Gertie is content with her knitting circle and is a proud island girl who loves to daydream. In this small town on the island, everyone knows everyone and nothing is kept secret for very long. While Gertie knits with her friends in the knitting circle, Gertie wonders & dreams of what to do with her life. An opportunity for adventure comes when she becomes a stewardess on the little plane & develops a crush on Calum Frost who is the owner.
Story, Writing, Setting & Characters
After reading The Bookshop On The Corner back in 2017 by Jenny, I was very grateful to Jenny’s agent Mary Interdonati for sending me a copy of Close Knit. The writing is great I do think the only flaw was it seemed to change points of view very fast without warning. The setting of these Scottish Islands is gorgeous, and I picture myself being there. I like Gertie, Morag, Struan, Ranald and Gerties mother Jean and her grandmother Elspeth. I love that Elspeth & Jean both tell Gertie that she needs to experience adventure and life even when Jean has a hard time of letting her go. Elspeth I especially appreciate since she says something we don’t like hearing, that one day we’re here and the next day we might not be, so we must live life. Gertie also grows as a character without changing herself entirely. Gertie is still quirky and happy, but she balances daydreaming with also living in the here and now of her life.
Overall
If you’re a Jenny Colgan fan, you enjoy romance and novels that have adventure and characters you’ll fall in love with or see yourselves becoming friends with, grab a copy of Close Knit now. I am so excited about doing my Behind The Book with you Jenny.
