Brideshead Revisited Once Again

Great news for fans of Evelyn Waugh’s 1945 novel “Brideshead Revisited,” BBC and HBO are working together to do the newest adaption of the novel. Already there was one version ITV did in the 1980’s starring Jeremy Irons and another one back in 2008 starring Emma Thompson and Matthew Goode from Downton Abbey. The novel takes place from 1920s through the 1940s and is about Charles Ryder and his friendship with an aristocratic Catholic family the Flytes who live in a mansion known as Brideshead Castle. I have not read the book but I desperately want to because it takes place in England also it has my faith Catholicism in it and talks about English Catholics which really it seems Catholicism in England isn’t as talked about. When you read about religion in England after Henry VIII you read about either English Catholics getting persecuted or you read about the English having a different faith.

The new adaption has an awesome cast already. Andrew Garfield who starred as Spider Man in The Amazing Spiderman films and in the movie Breath will play Charles Ryder. Joe Alwyn from the film, The Favourite, will play Sebastian Flyte. American actress Roony Mara who acted in The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Lion and an extremely terrible Peter Pan prequel movie known as Pan, will act as Sebastian’s sister Julia. Ralph Fiennes will act as Lord Marchmain. The lovely Cate Blanchett will play Lady Marchmain. Filming is expected to start in The United Kingdom and Italy this spring. According to my source britishperioddramas.com The new Brideshead Revisited will premiere on BBC One in the UK and on HBO in the US in 2022.
