Books being adapted to Movies in 2021!

I meant to write this an evening or two ago but time has gotten away from me. That being said this is a list of books that are going to be films in 2021 (some might be pushed to 2022 and beyond due to the virus) fear not this isn’t the only Christmas gift I’m giving you. There’s more book worthy news coming. Also before the New Year is over I will be writing a mini list of reviews titled, “The Best and Worst Books of 2020!” to end the old year and start off the new. Some of my news I obtained from oprahmag.com and some from an author’s instagram account etc.

“The Dig,” by John Preston is based on true events. In England during the second world war, a widowed farmer finds a treasure in her backyard. Ooh this is getting exciting isn’t it? What makes it more exciting is that the treasure is Medieval ruins dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries. Starring in the movie is Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Johnny Flynn and Lily James. The movie will be available on Netflix on January 15th.

“Blonde” by Joyce carol Oates is a biography about Marilyn Monroe. I think I read her book a long time ago and remembered enjoying it so much. Fifty eight years after her tragic death (I believe the conspiracy theory that the Kennedy’s had a hand in her death) everyone was so fascinated with how she lived. Behind that beautiful smile she was a sad soul. Her life is a tragic reminder that money and fame do not equal happiness. Ana De Armas  The release date is to be determined.

“The Last Letter From Your Lover,” by Jojo Moyes is a love story that takes place in two time periods from the 1960s to the 2000s. It’s about a hidden Hollywood affair and a journalist wants to figure out how it all ended. The cast is Shaileen Woodley from Secret Life of the American Teenager, and the Divergent films. Felicity Jones from Rogue One a Star Wars Story will also star. I’m glad I picked this book up from the library so I can read and review it. I enjoyed Jojo’s other two books, “Me Before You,” and Paris For One and Other Stories.” Hopefully by the time the Netflix movie premieres I can do a book vs movie comparison and tell you the readers which one is better. The release date will be determined but will premiere on Netflix.

“The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France” by Eric Jager has history revenge and duels. Two best friends become the worst of enemies over the course of the book. This one has a mismatched cast which includes Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodi Comer. I can picture Jodi Comer in something like this, considering she played in a historical drama on Starz called “The White Princess” where she played Elizabeth Plantagenet who married  Henry VII. The other male actors are so mismatched. I can only picture Adam Driver to be Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequels. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon I can only picture in action or war films. The movie will be released on October 15th 2021.

“The Dry” by Jane Harper is a mystery novel that takes place in Australia. Here is the Amazon synopsis of the book. After getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke’s steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead. Amid the worst drought in a century, Falk and the local detective question what really happened to Luke. As Falk reluctantly investigates to see if there’s more to Luke’s death than there seems to be, long-buried mysteries resurface, as do the lies that have haunted them. And Falk will find that small towns have always hidden big secrets.

This almost gives me I Know What You Did Last Summer mixed with And Then There Were None vibes. Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea optioned the rights for the book five years ago. The star of the movie playing Aaron Falk is the handsome actor Eric Bana. Eric has been in many movies The Time Travelers Wife, Black Hawk Down and The Other Boleyn Girl among others.  The movie will be released in Australia on New Year’s Day. When the movie will be released internationally is to be determined. I know I’m definitely going to read this I love mysteries and the setting in Australia makes it even better.
