Behind The Book With Mia Sheridan

It’s hard to believe I did a Q&A with USA Today, Wall Street Journal & New York Times Bestselling Author Mia Sheridan over two years ago and we are reunited again for a Behind The Book discussing her upcoming release The Fix coming out on November 1, 2025! I read The Fix in a week, and the story engrossed me from beginning to end! I was so grateful to Mia’s publicist Jennifer Richards for arranging the interview and sending me an early copy!

Mia Sheridan: Thank you so very much! Has it only been two years? Time is moving so fast! I’m so grateful that you read my current romantic thriller and am always full of appreciation for those who enjoy both my light and dark sides.

Q: Mia, welcome back to Book Notions! Would you like to give readers who haven’t read The Fix a brief description of it?

A: Thank you so much for having me! The Fix is the story of a teenage girl named Cami who survives a horrific home invasion where her mother and sister are murdered, and her father injured. Years later, after rebuilding her life, she receives a phone call asking her if she’d like a “do-over.” Disturbed and confused, she asks for help from an old classmate named Rex, who police once suspected might be part of the crime against her family. Together, Rex and Cami strike out on a journey of discovery to find out not only what really happened all those years ago to destroy Cami’s family, but to help save someone innocent who is in very real current danger.

Q: Where did the idea for The Fix come from & how long did it take you to write the novel?

A: The first threads of the story started when a friend was talking about an awful home-invasion crime that happened in her town. The very idea of a home-invasion is particularly horrifying to me—to be violated in a place that should be a person’s safe haven from the world sends chills down my spine. I started imagining a crime like that and the story of The Fix began unraveling in my mind. It took me two months to write it.

Q: I read Archers Voice shortly before we did our very first Q&A together. The Fix is very different from Archers Voice since The Fix is romantic suspense and it’s darker. How different was writing romantic suspense vs regular romance?

A: Believe it or not, I actually don’t find writing romance and romantic suspense that different! I usually incorporate a mystery element in my romances, even if it’s something rather light. So for me, it’s all about adjusting the balance, and setting different boundaries. My romances tend to be 20% mystery/secrets to be revealed and 80% romance/relationship while my thrillers flip that and go further as far as the darkness of the mystery element. Either way, I love diving into the psychology of the characters and how they respond to what life has thrown at them, be it love or murder. Haha.

Q: Are there any messages and emotions you hope readers learn once they finish reading The Fix? Which scenes were your favorites to create, and which ones were difficult to create? I love Cami’s butterfly business and the chemistry she has with Rex. The suspense kept the story interesting and the ending I really liked too!

A: I love to hear that you liked those elements! Thank you! In creating these characters, I really hoped that readers would be left with Cami’s spirit of strength and hope. It’s always important to me to convey my belief that no matter the circumstances life delivers (sometimes even terrible and traumatizing), there can be healing even after deep, life-altering pain. The most difficult scenes to write were the ones in the beginning where the Cortlandt women were being so horribly victimized. And my favorite ones to write are always the wrap up, where I hope to bring readers full circle in a way that leaves them feeling satisfied with the justice delivered, and peaceful about where the hero and heroine have ended up.

Q: If The Fix were to get a tv or movie adaptation, who would be the perfect actors and actresses to play the characters you created? I wouldn’t mind Taylor Lautner portraying Rex.

A: I could definitely get on board with Taylor Lautner! And I usually don’t have anyone specific in mind when I’m writing my characters, so I asked my 20-year-old daughter who read an early copy of The Fix who she sees playing Cami and she mentioned Kathryn Newton (with her hair darkened). I love that recommendation, too! It’s always so fascinating for me to hear who readers picture as the characters I’ve created and so fun to receive teasers of those ideas.
