Behind The Book With Doug Lawrence
Mickey Mikkelson was kind enough to reunite me
again with Doug Lawrence for this Behind The Book Q&A discussing his new
nonfiction book Grief The Silent Pandemic coming out next
month!
Q: Doug, can you give a brief
description of your book Grief The Silent Pandemic? What compelled you
to write your current book about grief?
A: The book provides the readers with an overview
of what Grief is and the many different aspects of Grief. It dispels the myth
that Grief has a start date and end date which it does not. The book touches on
some of the following:
1.
What is grief
2.
What are coping strategies
3.
What are the types of grief
4.
Pandemic – what is it?
5.
Mentoring and mental health
6.
Youth and mental health
There are more key points that are touched on in
the book that take the reader on a journey of healing and mental health.
This book was primarily written in honor of my
wife, Debra who I lost to cancer in 2021.
Q: How long did it take you to write Grief
The Silent Pandemic?
A: I would say that I began writing “Grief, The
Silent Pandemic” about a year and a half to two years ago. There were some
bumps in the road that I had to work through but it was well worth the effort
and I have grown as a person as a result.
Q: What lessons do you hope readers
learn after reading Grief The Silent Pandemic?
A: What
is grief
What are coping strategies
What are the types of grief
Pandemic – what is it?
It is okay to experience grief. If you need
support open the closet door and extend your hand and ask for help.
It is okay to be sad and need to cry
You need not go on your healing journey alone.
