Behind The Book Her Cold Justice with Robert Dugoni
New York Times Bestselling author of mystery thrillers and historical fiction Robert Dugoni has returned for this latest Behind The Book Q&A as we will discuss his new book in the Keera Dungan series Her Cold Justice. Her Cold Justice is available today on January 27th wherever you get your books!
Q: Welcome back to Book Notions Robert! Would you please give a brief description of Her Cold Justice?
A: Defense Attorney Keera Duggan takes on her most formidable opponent, Kim Tran, a highly successful prosecutor. This time the stakes are personal as Keera must defend Michael Westbrook, the nephew of her long-time private eye JP Harrison in a double homicide case. As Keera investigates, the evidence against Michael appears overwhelming, but is it legitimate or is Michael being set up; and why?
Q: Where did the idea for Her Cold Justice come from?
A: I was reading an article that discussed the prosecutor as being the most powerful person in the criminal justice system and why. I thought it was fascinating and wanted to explore what I learned in the article.
Q: Readers debate back and forth about this on Goodreads, can you read the Keera Dungan books as standalone novels, or do you have to read them in order?
A: I always try to write my books as standalones. That is, it is a full story. The throughline of the story is always resolved. In a series, the characters go forward to their next challenge, but the challenge is resolved in every story. Otherwise, I don’t think you’re playing fair with the reader.
Q: What important lessons and reminders would you hope readers takeaway from this novel?
A: The same as always. The novel was entertaining, kept them engrossed in the characters and in the story and they enjoyed the journey. Every reader brings something different to a book when they open the cover, so I don’t ever try to preach or opine.
Q: What can fans expect in book 4 of The Keera Dungan series? Will Keera also cross over into the Tracey Crosswhite novels at any point?
A: Keera 4 is a prequel and will show the reader how Patsy Duggan became the Irish Brawler at such a young age. I’m really excited about this novel.
I don’t think Keera and Tracy will ever cross-over. The answer is practical. It makes it very difficult when the books are sold to television for a series.
