Alive And Beating

Alive And Beating

Six people from diverse backgrounds all have something in common. They all need an organ transplant & they all live in Jerusalem. We have Leah a Hasidic Jew, Yael, a daughter of Holocaust survivors, Hoda, a Palestinian hairdresser, David, an Iraqi Jewish restaurant owner, Severin, a Catholic Priest & Youssef and Yosef two teenage boys whose fates intertwine.

 A Good Debut Novel

Rebecca Wolf did a good job with her debut novel.  I like that Rebecca used inspiration from her childhood friend Alisa. The storytelling was great. Some characters I liked reading about more than others, but I liked reading about all of them and their backstories and who they are. One character I really enjoyed the most was Hoda’s. Hoda has a salon, and she’s trying to balance her dream and raising her two sons as a single mother and making sure one of them, doesn’t become radicalized. I also liked how Leah finally chose to stand up for herself against her overbearing mother. The book is a reminder that no matter what our backgrounds and our differences we all have dreams and we’re all human at the end of the day. Thank you, Rebecca Wolf, for this reminder.
