A Friend Indeed
A Friend Indeed
Single mother Jo Dykstra is back in Glebes Bay, a town in the Pacific Northwest ready for a fresh new start as a teacher that her best friend Dana McFarlane helped her get. One night in the wee hours, Jo gets a call from her bestie pleading for Jo’s help. Jo is desperate to repay her friend for the favor, not expecting what that would entail. When Jo arrives at Dana’s oceanfront mansion, she finds Dana’s husband sprawled dead facedown. Dana admits to killing her husband admitting years of abuse and infidelity. After begging Jo not to report this to the police, the two decide to dump his body in the ocean. Soon after, a blackmailer sends notes revealing that someone saw them that night. On top of that the two women must deal with gossipy neighbors, ill fated lovers & zealous police. Also lies and secrets are exposed making Jo wonder, what Dana could be hiding?
Story, Writing, Setting & Characters
I like the concept of a story, How far would we go for a friend? The writing is decent, and it’s fast paced. I like that the setting has an ocean and it’s in the Pacific Northwest. The only character I really like out of the book is Jo. Jo, I feel as though is a good friend and person despite some things she’s done that aren’t good. Dana was an awful friend & we see that even through flashbacks to when they were in school themselves. There is a part about a blow job being performed to get the girls home. Luckily it didn’t’ get graphic. I got to hand it to Elka Ray that we got some twists and turns which I did not expect. I am happy that Jo did a lot of growth towards the end, and it was time to move on.
Overall
Overall if you enjoy stories that have mysteries, and suspense in them, grab a copy of A Friend Indeed by Elka Ray. Thank you, Samantha Lien, for mailing me an early copy and for connecting Elka and I together. I am so excited about our Q&A!
