Heart Bones

Heart Bones, by Colleen Hoover is my fifth time reading from Colleen Hoover. Beyah Grim has finally earned her ticket out of Kentucky from a life of neglect from an addict mother with a free ride to Penn State. Before Beyah is able to leave though, her mother dies of a drug over dose and because the rent is late she is homeless leaving Beyah no choice but to go to Texas and stay with her father for the summer, a father she barely knows. During her time in Texas she meets Samson a local rich kid it turns from dislike to then a summer fling the two of them not knowing how romantic and heartbreaking things are yet to become.

Pros

To say I’m a Colleen Hoover fan after reading five of her novels is an understatement. The story matches the beautiful rainbow cover with the pinwheel. I love Beyah and Samson’s relationship they are both closed off people due to the circumstances in their lives but they each get the other one to open up. I also love how Beyah grew as a character she went from being closed off and judge mental to being open and embracing her new family and letting go of the anger she had against her father and mother and taking steps to improve her life and not end up the same way her mother did. I actually got teary eyed at parts. Heart Bones  just like It Ends With Us & It Starts With Us, is about characters changing for the better and not repeating the same cycles some of their family members made and it’s a good reminder for us all.

Cons

While I liked the twist with Samson, it felt a little rushed in as though Hoover realized she needed to put a twist in to make it exciting at the last minute.

Overall

Overall this was another great novel by Colleen Hoover. I know for many people her and her books are something you either love or hate. For me they are books that I love. I can’t wait to read more from her.
