There is a Japanese folk belief that objects inhabit spirts of people we have lost. If you had a chance to return to earth, what would be an item you would choose to inhabit so you could watch over a loved one? Eleven recently deceased people including a homeless man and a five-year-old boy, are offered a chance to return to earth haunting an object to keep an eye on those they love.

Heartfelt Stories With a Touch of Magical Realism

The Soul Catchers is the first time I read anything by author Naoko Higashi. While some stories are more heartfelt and better than others, I enjoyed reading each one. It’s hard to choose one favorite story because I loved so many of them. I think my number 1 favorite was the man choosing to be his wife’s journal, and then she wrote in that journal calling it by his name. It was sweet reminiscing about how they met, and talking about their daughter and how the wife while she’ll always love him, she found love again and it was time to move on.
