Q&A With Stan R. Lenkiewicz
Stan R. Lenkiewicz is the author of the nonfiction book, Lost in the Darkness, which discusses missing people, many of these cases being featured in the popular show Unsolved Mysteries.
Q: Stan, welcome to Book Notions! What made you want to have your first book, a book of unsolved mysteries, most of them being from the show Unsolved Mysteries?
A: Thank you so much! It’s a pleasure to be part of Book Notions. Actually, ‘Lost in the Darkness’ is my third book. In 2023, I published ‘After Much Consideration – A Collection of One-Act Plays’ and Middle of the Ring’.
Growing up, I was a huge fan of the television program Unsolved Mysteries. I was especially drawn to the missing person segments. I can’t even fathom the grief, desperation and helplessness a family must feel when a loved one goes missing. Many of the missing person cases in ‘Lost in the Darkness’ were originally highlighted in Unsolved Mysteries.
Q: How long did it take you to write Lost In The Darkness?
A: Between the research and actual writing, it took approximately 2 years to completion. There was a short delay, because my dad passed away in December 2024. As you can imagine, our family was devastated. He was a great man, and we miss him very much. ‘Lost in the Darkness’ is dedicated in his memory.
Q: What do you hope readers learn once they read Lost In The Darkness?
A: Sadly, there are thousands of people that go missing each year. My main objective in writing ‘Lost in the Darkness’ was to stress the importance of keeping a loved one’s case in the public eye and relevant. In my book, I write that the last thing a family can afford to let happen is for their loved one’s case to languish or be relegated to a cardboard box in a dusty file room of a police station. With significant advances in technology and the explosion of the internet, hopefully many more cases will be solved.
Q: Which cases did you enjoy covering the most in Lost In The Darkness? Are you currently writing another book similar to Lost In The Darkness?
A: Researching each case proved to be highly informative and gripping. I did my very best to capture each person’s life story and mysterious disappearance. Two cases that stood out for me involved Gordon Page and Angela Hammond. Gordon was an autistic young man, who was living in a long-term facility for individuals with special needs. He disappeared shortly after learning his family had moved away. Angela was a young, pregnant woman, who just got engaged. She had her whole life ahead of her. Angela was abducted while speaking to her fiancé on the phone. These are just a couple of the dark and puzzling cases discussed in my book.
As for future projects, there are always ideas bouncing around in my head. For my next title, I would like to write book on the numerous scandals and tragedies that often times get covered up in pro wrestling.
