Mia Crawford is practical to a fault, between taking care of her grandmother, her cats and working in finance she has time for little else except reading. Mia’s job coerces I mean requests that she takes a vacation on the island of Saint Clair. While there, Mia can read on the beach, get some fun in the sun probably have a fling with the handsome bartender. Things get exciting and not so relaxing when Mia happens to see a free mystery book that one of the guests leaves strange clues in. When that guest ends up dead, Mia realizes she’s drawn into a real-life murder mystery. The murdered victim was blackmailing someone. Each of the islanders has something to hide and some connection to the victim. Question is the killer?

Story, Setting, Characters & An Unexpected Lesson & Reminder

For everyone whose known me for a while, knows I enjoy a good murder mystery. I love that the setting of Allison Brennan’s Beach Reads & Deadly Deeds is in an island location. I love the story from Mia’s point of view and she’s telling it in first person. I also like Brie, the young 18-year-old girl who’s like a little sister to Mia. Everyone else on the island is suspicious and not who they seem. The unexpected lesson & reminder for Mia & many of us is that life is not without its risks. That there is such a thing as being too cautious & sometimes we need to take that next step. The worst regret in life is wondering what if I had taken that risk?  The twist as to who the killer was, was unexpected which I like but it made sense.
