Q&A With Zane Carson Carruth

Mickey Mikkelson connected me with author Zane Carson Carruth who is the author of the trademarked series The World’s First Tooth Fairy. The most recent book in the series is, Abella and the Almost Racehorse.

Q: Zane would you please give a brief description of you’re the Worlds First Tooth Fairy series?

A: The original book, The World’s First Tooth Fairy…Ever, explains how the tooth fairy tradition started. The remaining six books follow her and her best friend Darcie’s adventures of starting a tooth fairy school, getting their magic wands, getting a new hairdo, going to the rodeo, befriending a wanna-be racehorse and lastly exploring a haunted house. The books are filled with magic, awe, excitement and above all friendship.

Q: What made you want to write books for children?

A: I believe children are exposed to much more drama and unwholesomeness than we were as kids.  I love writing these books to bring innocence and magic back into their lives.  Every time a child is read to or reads sparks their imagination and sends them on a healthy mental journey.  I want to do my part of bringing joy and wonder to children’s lives.

Q: Will Abella have more adventures or is Abella and the Almost Racehorse the final book in the series? What are you currently writing now?

A:  That little Abella and her friend Darcie are quite busy as we speak.  My last book (fresh off the press) is titled Abella and the Haunted House. I am mentally working on the sequel to Abella and the Almost Racehorse.  I intend to keep writing as long as I can.

Q: What lessons do you hope children learn after reading your books?

A: The biggest take away I hope they will glean from my books is to treat people kindly and value your friends and friendships.  And to treat yourself kindly.  People goof up and make mistakes, that’s just part of being human.  But forgiving yourself and others is also part of being human.  The good part.

Q: It’s sad that today’s generation of children are more into their electronics than they are into reading. What tips do you have for parents to get their children to read more?

A: It is so important to read to your children when they are small.  That is a huge gift you give them when you invest your time, energy and self in reading to them.  It makes them feel special and loved as well as opening their world.  I believe you must capture their imagination when they are very young, and it will stay with them.  If you read to your children, they will develop a love for reading far greater than if you didn’t read to them.
