Q&A With Hope Bolinger

Today’s Q&A is with the managing editor at End Game Press, multi-published novelist & book editor Hope Bolinger. Hope has had 1600 of her works featured in Writers Digest to Keys for Kids to HOOKED to Crosswalk.com. Hope has written over 250-300 articles a year & has edited the work of over 300 authors. Some of the authors works Hope has edited is Jerry B. Jenkins & Michelle Medlock Adams.

Q: Hope, would you please tell the readers and I a bit about you & what you enjoy the most about writing, editing books & being the managing editor at End Game Press?

A: Such a good question! I think it’s hard to pick just one thing, but recently I’ve been much more in the freelance editing world, and I’ve loved it. It’s really wonderful to read such wonderful books by authors and help them bridge the gap to get to their next goal. It’s been a whirlwind, but fantastic!

Q: Did you have to go to college to pursue being a book editor & managing editor?

A: I did, but honestly, I’ve seen people thrive in this field with and without degrees. I’m grateful for the degree I got because it was publishing-specific, but I’m cheering on everyone in this field—regardless of the education received or not received.

Q: Would you please tell the readers & I about the books you’ve written & where the ideas for your stories come from?

A: Such a good question! I have 20 books out, so it would be hard to condense it all in here, so I can boil it down to this: I write middle grade, young adult books, and sweet romances. Usually most of them start with “what if” scenarios? I wish I could streamline the inspiration process, but it just strikes sometimes!

Q: What advice would you give anyone wanting to be a book editor?

A: It never hurts to practice now. I did about 100 free book edits before I started charging, because I wanted to make sure I had enough practice. Of course, you don’t have to make that your hard-and-fast rule. But it never hurts to get as much experience as you can.

Q: Other than the authors I mentioned in the little introduction above, would you please tell us about some of the other authors you’ve edited books for?

A: Of course! So I’ve edited over 300+ authors at this point, so some of the wonderful authors I’ve edited for include Kristiana Sfirlea, Alyssa Roat, Caroline George, Tessa Emily Hall, Crystal Bowman, and so many others. It’s been wonderful to be able to work on so many books.
